Canna is an exquisite highlight of every garden. You can tell by the leaves they are close relatives of banana trees. They vary by the height, leaf colour and obviously flower colour. Picasso is a short variety with bright green leaves and striking yellow flowers with profusion of red spot. Stems are green, buds are yellow. You needn´t be an expert to grow cannas. The best way is to keep them in the container and make a hole in the lawn or a garden bed and put it in with the container. You can also get a pretty pot to display your canna in it on a patio. It needs a lot of nutrients, water and plenty of sunlight – minimum 6 hours a day. In the autumn, wait for the first frosts to damage the leaves and stems, cut them back and store the container in a cool and dark, frost-free place. Check it for slight watering every now and then not to let it dry totally. If you feel like it you can put the rhizomes in your garden, where they will grow stronger and faster but you need to dig them out in the autumn and store them the way that they do not rot from too much moisture or dry out from too little moisture.
