Cedar of Lebanon is the most popular cedar in our country as it combines two important features: it is fully hardy and has the typical, beautiful cedar shape. In this case, however, we are bringing you a rare variety called Pyramidalis. Difficult to guess what this cedar is all about, eh?

Pyramidalis cedar of Lebanon is a bushy growing plant of narrowly columnar habit or almost pyramidal shape when mature. It has short and glossy, deep green needles that are borne in whorls of 40-50. Being a specialty it is not listed in the world’s most respected encyclopedias. So the information about its size in maturity was gathered from enthusiasts who have been growing this rarity for years. It is expected to make about 12-15 m when 40-50 years old, climate conditions pending. It will be much slimmer than the species, still, leave a space of at least 4m in diameter for this tree. If your garden is too small you can easily control its size by pruning which cedars take very well. It can be done in early spring or in midsummer.

It grows reliably in almost any soil type, even chalky, just avoid too acidic locations. For the best results choose a sunny spot. Although cedar of Lebanon is a hardy species we do not recommend planting it in mountainous regions with prolonged winter periods or in frost pockets. If the needles are damaged by severe frosts the tree usually makes new ones in late spring. Hardy to approx. -27°C (USDA zone 5b).
