Lucky Strike is a beautiful variety of Colorado spruce which, in fact, does not look like a spruce at all. Rather a dwarf pine with short needles. They are dark green with silvery film thanks to which the plant looks mid green on the overall. Also attractive is the honey-yellow colour of new branches that are quite thick. Reddish-brown cones are produced on already young plants.
Lucky Strike grows slowly and will be about 1.2m tall and a little less wide in 10 years. It can be trimmed or clipped in early spring or in midsummer. Mature plants are expected to reach about 2m.
Spruce is widely soil adaptable provided the soil is well-drained. It likes neutral to slightly acidic soil and full sun. No fertilizing is necessary. Fully hardy to about -40°C (USDA zone 3).
