Honey locust is known as a beautiful and elegant tree. Having said that, what is it that made the cultivators use the name ´Elegantissima´ for this variety? From Roman languages we know that everything with suffix –issima is used for everything a grade higher. And looking at this honey locust we can see that they were right – extremely elegant, densely leaved shrub. The leaves are the same as on the species, just a bit shorter but there is at least three times as much. They are compound, fern-like, and bright green turning yellow in the autumn. This variety is thornless. Usual height is 2-3m, everything above falls under specimen as it grows very slowly. Maximum height is expected 6m (in about 50 years though). Should you need to keep it compact you can trim it every 3-5 years. It is soil tolerant, we only suggest avoiding calcareous soil. Fully hardy even in mountainous regious.
