Roses Summer blooms |
It appears that the new millennium brought a new fashion style along: roses with very light, almost white flowers, only slightly tinted with a specific colour shade. For lovers of bold colours it might come as a disappointment but if you calm down your senses and look away from the rich and vibrant varieties, you will see the understated, yet immense beauty of these works of art with pale tones.
Herzogin Christiana®, or also only CHRISTIANA® is another of those beautiful light-coloured roses. It was bred by Hermann Kordes in 2003 and introduced in 2013. Open field trials proved its health and hardiness so in 2015 it was awarded ADR for being absolutely trouble-free. It produces mid-sized, 6-8 cm across flowers of strong perfume resembling lemon and champagne. They are fully double, pompon-like, light pink with almost white outer petals. The shrub has dark green, very healthy leaves, and grows bushy and upright. Repeat blooming.
Planting instructions: Prepare a hole of size 30x30 cm. Put your rose in the way that the grafting point is 3 cm deep in the soil. Water well and cover new shoots with soil or bark mulch about 15 cm high. Roses tolerate wide range of soils but thrive in deep, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, in full sun. During the flowering season regular feeding is recommended.
Pruning: Regular deadheading during the flowering season will enhance production of new flower buds - remove stems with spent flowers above the first leaf with 5 leaflets where the stem is strong and does not bend. Hard prune the whole shrub in early spring after frosts to 3-5 live buds above the ground.
