KISMET® is an American coneflower series bred by Harini Horlipara in Terra Nova Nursery in Canby, Oregon. They comprise strong growing and abundantly flowering varieties of glowing colours and with extended bloom time a shorter stems. KISMET® YELLOW was patented as PP29922 in 2018.
KISMET® YELLOW coneflower is considered the best yellow cultivar so far (in 2021). It produces large, fragrant flowers of rich golden yellow colour atop about 40 cm tall, strong, non-floppy stems. The central discs are large, green first, maturing to golden yellow. Blooming begins in late July (CE climate) and continues until the last sunny and warm days of early autumn. Leaves are broadly lanceolate, medium green.
The plant is usually trouble-free and resistant, just be careful if slugs are present in your garden. Since coneflowers emerge quite late, often when slugs are already in their lethal strength, they could gobble up newly emerging foliage totally and thus destroy the plant before it even comes out.
Coneflower will tolerate almost any soil type but boggy. It loves full sun. It is suitable for mixed borders with perennials or can be used as a flowering feature among low shrubs and conifers and looks lovely when planted in a mass in a container on patios and balconies. Fully hardy to min -34 °C (USDA zone 4).
