This variety of Japanese painted fern got its name after a waterfall in Oregon. Painted ferns are popular for their metallic colours. Silver Falls offers striking silvery-white or silvery grey fronds with deep maroon-purple midribs and green stems. The colour of the leaves actually brightens as the season progresses. Try growing them along with hostas for best contrast.

It needs light and preferably acidic soil that is constantly moist. Grow it preferably in semi-shade. Fully hardy to min. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
