If you want to start growing plants in an alternative way, we recommend that you abandon most chemical products and try something different. One of the helpers can and should be mycorrhizal fungi. They have been working with plants for millions of years and have made it possible for plants to go from water to land. If soil fungi have done this, they can certainly cope with our beds with poor quality soil.
A mycorrhizal fungus is a soil fungus that attaches itself to the roots of plants and begins to grow and form a network of hair-like structures. The fungus draws nutrients from the soil and, by attaching itself to the root, is able to transfer the beneficial substances to the plant. The mycorrhizal network has several times the capacity to take up nutrients from the soil, thus nourishing the plants to a greater extent in a completely natural (non-chemical) way. The mycorrhizal fungus does not harm the plant in any way; on the contrary, the more of it the plant has, the better it benefits. If you still don't know what it is, you can think of a mycorrhizal fungus as an infusion tube through which beneficial substances enter the body. A weakened organism will immediately get a boost and more strength for further growth and development.
Mycorrhizal preparations are also available on our market (the manufacturer is the Czech company Symbiom) and can be applied from vegetables, through ornamental, balcony and house plants to trees and shrubs. There are three basic species of mycorrhizal fungi found in nature and each species cooperates with a different group of plants. That is why the mycorrhizal products for vegetables, fruit and ornamental gardens are Symbivit, for heath plants Rhodovit and for most deciduous and coniferous trees Ectovit.
Application of the products is not difficult, but requires only one condition - to deliver the product in direct contact with the roots of the plants. And what can we expect from mycorrhizal products? After their application, plants will be: - more resistant to stress factors such as e.g. the plants will be protected against root fungal pathogens and parasites - plant death after planting or transplanting will be reduced - in fruit vegetables, the beneficial antioxidant substances in the fruit will increase - in ornamental plants, stable growth and more abundant flowering will occur. If you have any questions about mycorrhiza, you can contact the Czech producer of these natural products, Symbiom (symbiom@symbiom.cz).
