Buddleja
Buddleja is better known as butterfly bush. The reason is obvious – from early summer when it starts blooming until early autumn it produces large, scented flowers that attract winged insects, mostly butterflies. The BUZZ™ series of buddleja is bred by young French breeder Charles Valin in England for a renowned horticultural company Thompson & Morgan. They are represented in America by Cultivaris North America, LCC, from Florida. The series composes of compact or almost dwarf buddleja varieties which can also be grown in pots on patios and balconies. They flower all summer long and their height does not exceed 1.5m.Description of the plant:
BUZZ™ IVORY is a subtle beauty among all the bright colours of new buddleja varieties introduced in 2009. It produces about 10 cm long racemes composed of small, fragrant, ivory flowers with orange throat. Blooming is profuse and begins in mid July and continues until early autumn. Deciduous leaves are lanceolate, hairy as they emerge, medium green above and silver on the reverse, without a significant autumn colour change. BUZZ™ IVORY forms an upright, densely branched, and compact shrub 1-1.5m tall. Patent PP23464 was granted in 2013.Butterfly bush requires little care. Still, we strongly recommend hard pruning every spring to low permanent framework when buds begin to swell. Plant it in full sun, in well-drained humus-rich soil. It will die in boggy soil after winter. Though hardy to -29°C (USDA zone 5) it performs better in warmer zones. We suggest buying older plants with woody framework for planting in colder areas.
