Campsis x tagliabuana 'Kudian' INDIAN SUMMER® trumpet vine - climber
INDIAN SUMMER® trumpet creeper has been winning all sorts of awards since 1998. It is a successful cross between c.tagliabuana and c.radicans bred by Hendricus Jacobus Maria Kuijf from the Netherlands. US plant patent PP13139 was granted in 2002.
It blooms abundantly from early July until the first frosts if the plant has enough buds. Flowers are bright orange, sometimes with reddish throat, trumpet-shaped, up to 8 cm long. Pinnate leaves are deep to dark green, coarsely serrated, often with burgundy margins.
Mature plants can climb up to 4 meters, and as the new growths are not as long as on the parent species. Indian Summer grows slower and makes a beautiful shrub and is suitable as a pot plant for patios if given a support. It dislikes acidic soil, needs chalky soil, not over watered. Full sun for abundant flowering. Plants in open ground are hardy to about -27°C perhaps even -29°C (USDA zone 5), and plants in pots should be overwintered in frost-free areas.

- SHRUB - a woody plant with branches growing bushy from the ground level.
