Chrysogonum virginianum goldenstar, golden knee

Goldenstar is a ground-covering perennial from woodlands of Eastern parts of USA. It produces rich yellow, star-shaped flowers from early June until late summer. Leaves are deep green, heart-shaped or oblong, serrated at margins, and evergreen in mild winters. It spreads slowly by rhizomes but is not invasive.
Goldenstar loves and needs humus-rich, preferably acid soil that will not dry out. Naturally it grows in filtered sunlight or deep shade in woodlands, but it can still be cultivated in full sun if sufficient moisture is provided. Hardy to about -27°C (USDA zone 5b).
