Henricus Holtmaat is a Dutch breeder who focuses on coneflowers, astilbe, and bee balms, and so far has patented a long line of beautiful varieties. BUTTERFLY™ GOLDEN SKIPPER coneflower is another success of his patented as PP28523 in 2017.
BUTTERFLY™ GOLDEN SKIPPER coneflower is a fantastic addition to the Butterfly™ series with striking colour. Its ray florets are deep golden yellow from the middle towards the tips, and vivid lemon yellow towards the large orange cone. The flowers are about 10-11 cm across and appear from early July until late September atop strong, green stems about 50-60 cm tall. The colour is vivid and deep, and combines well with purple blue sage or deep pink monardas, or you can use gauras and thin-leaved grasses to soften the clumps. Lanceolate leaves are very dark green and grow from the ground and then up along the stems. Flowers attract butterflies and bumble bees and benefit from regular deadheading.
