Fagus sylvatica 'PURPLE FOUNTAIN' weeping copper beech

This red-leaved variety of common beech was a chance seedling from 1975. It is a slow growing small tree with weeping branches that do not need staking.
The deciduous leaves are rich purple or nearly reddish-black, glossy. Thanks to its slow growth rate and reduced size it is suitable for small gardens, too.
It will grow in almost any soil type including chalky. For best results in leaf colour plant it in full sun. Fully hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4).
