Description of the plant:
Broom is not a kind name for a beautiful shrub like this genista. Truth is, however, that its tine leaves are less obvious for its numerous, slender, arching branches which might look a little disorganized but still not broomy.

Genista produces masses of bright yellow to golden yellow flowers in May and June. Its arching branches look best if placed above a short fence or in a large rockery. It grows about 50 cm tall and twice as wide, and makes a perfect contrast with shrubs of slender, columnar habit or upright growing perennials.

Genista likes well-drained, poor to moderately fertile soil and full sun. It comes from Balkan and is hardy to about -25°C (USDA zone 6).
