Hypericum 'Allgrandeur' MIRACLE® GRANDEUR St. John's Wort

Hypericum
St. John’s Wort is a well-known perennial from our meadows and fields. The gardeners, however, selected species which are shrubby and have additional features for common use in gardens. MIRACLE® is an enchanted series of a few hybrids producing profusion of multi-coloured berries in autumn. The breeding program started in 2010 and was conducted by a Dutch breeder Wilhelmus T.J. van den Hoogen. The variety name of this St. John’s wort says it all: MIRACLE® GRANDEUR. That’s because ‘grande’ means big and refers to the fruit size. Berries of this variety are possibly the largest in the whole MIRACLE® series. They are vivid red and glossy and are produced in profusion after bright golden yellow flowers which open in several flushes from late June until late September. Its deciduous, broadly ovate leaves are dark green and completely cover the whole shrub that is well-branched and bushy. Granted patents: 46209 (Europe – 2017) a PP27125 (USA – 2016).
St. John’s wort loves in full sun and moderately fertile soil that is very well drained but evenly moist. Prune young plants by one third or one half in spring and rejuvenate older plants by cutting back about 5-7 cm above ground. But don’t do it regularly, only light pruning is recommended if done annually. Fully hardy to about -23°C (USDA zone 6).
