Hypericum 'HIDCOTE' St. John's Wort
St. John’s Wort belongs to the group of folk remedy herbs. This variety called Hidcote is grown for its large, showy flowers. They are deep yellow, 6 cm across, with 5 petals. Blooming period is quite long: the main flowering season is June to early July, and then it repeats flowering at the end of summer.
To encourage flowering it is advised to cut back previous year’s wood to 10-20 cm. This will lead to forming many new twigs bearing flower buds. Leaves are lance shaped, dark green, to 6 cm long and are semi-evergreen. In mild winters they persist until spring.
It does not require fertilizing if your soil is average fertile. It flowers reliably even in semi-shade. Hardy to -27°C (USDA zone 5b), possibly a little more.

- HOBBY - These plants are of the same quality as our standard-quality plants but younger and therefore cheaper.
- SHRUB - a woody plant with branches growing bushy from the ground level.
- HALF-STANDARD or MINI-STANDARD - a small tree with shorter trunk, its size is usually specified.
- FEATHERED - These are trees with branches growing already from the base of the trunk and up along the stem.
