Description of the plant:
James Grieve Red is a sport of James Grieve apple, found in 1922 with redder fruit. It produces very tasty, sweet and aromatic apples from end August until early October. The fruit is best eaten fresh off the tree. Under usual condition it can be stored for maximum of 2 months, while in fruit-cooling rooms it can last until the end of winter.
Apple trees should be pruned in mid-winter. Remove vertical branches and shorten side branches. Fruiting wood is mostly horizontal. Most apple trees are sterile and need another apple variety for pollination. This pollinator can be in the same neighborhood, no need to have it in the same garden. It is fully hardy.
