Ortiva fungicide

categorized

Ortiva is a modern systemic fungicide designed primarily for the protection of vegetables and ornamentals against fungal diseases. After spraying it penetrates the leaves and is distributed throughout the plant, protecting even new growth. On the leaf surface it also forms a protective film that prevents spore germination. Thanks to this dual action it works preventively and keeps plants healthy and vigorous for several weeks.

  • What it can do: Protects tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, carrots, celery, peas, and many other vegetables against downy mildew, powdery mildew, rusts, and leaf spots. It has preventive and partly curative activity, with long residual protection (3–8 weeks). It is the very same product that is also registered for use against needle cast (Lophodermium spp.) on conifers in forest and ornamental nurseries.**

  • What it cannot do: It does not control bacterial diseases or late blight of potatoes. Resistance may develop if azoxystrobin is used repeatedly, so alternation with fungicides from other groups is recommended.

  • What to use instead: Alternatives include other strobilurins (Amistar, Quadris) or combination products (Ortiva Top = azoxystrobin + difenoconazole). In organic farming, copper‑based products or biologicals (Polyversum) are used.

product description:

Ortiva contains azoxystrobin (250 g/l), an active substance from the strobilurin group (FRAC code 11). It acts systemically and translaminarly, penetrating the leaves and moving through the vascular system. Its mode of action is the inhibition of electron transport in the mitochondrial respiratory chain of fungi, which blocks energy production and stops mycelial growth. Because of its protective nature, it should be applied preventively or at the very onset of infection. Protection lasts 3–8 weeks depending on crop and conditions.

  • Application: foliar spray preventively or at the first signs of disease.

  • Dosage examples:

    • Tomato, cucumber, pepper: 0.8–1 l/ha (field or greenhouse)
