Pinus

Pine trees are superb trees which grow in a wide climate scale - from cold northern countries to hot coastal sites. They are probably most beautiful in their natural environment. This dwarf mugo pine is an excellent variety gained from standard mugo but with golden edges of short needles.

Description of the plant

Carsten’s Wintergold is a selection of very popular Wintergold with stunning winter colour. The needles are deep green from mid spring until early autumn. Then they begin turning yellow and from end autumn until the last cold days of spring they are vivid yellow. This colour is unbeatable so far. Ideal for mixed borders, combined with taller shrubs or perennials. Ideal for rockeries.

Growing conditions and care

This slow-growing is mound-forming, making a compact shape, no pruning needed. As every pine, it needs full sun and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Do not over-water pines but make sure it does not dry out when re-planted. Absolutely hardy to approx. -40°C (USDA zone 3).
