Pinus strobus eastern white pine

One of the tallest pines is this eastern white pine. It has soft, 7-13 cm long needles of light green colour with a bluish tint. Natural growth is upright with pyramidal shape when young, turning slightly wider and irregular as the branches spread to sides and mature. In gardens where it has limited root space it can grow 8-12 m, whereas in natural woodlands and arboretums it grows twice as tall. To ensure fully leaved branches from the ground it has to be planted in full sun, and slightly moist soil. Fully hardy.
