Description of the plant
Common polypody is a usual fern of mild and colder parts of Europe. It is evergreen and has about 30-40 cm long, thin stalks with mid green leaflets with rounded ends.
Growing conditions and care
It grows best in semi-shade but can be cultivated in full sun or full shade as well. It grows in woodland leafmould or epiphytically on rotting stumps or fallen tree trunks. It is reported to grow well in clay, too. Cut off all leaves in spring to encourage new growths. Hardy to about -40°C (USDA zone 3).
