Prunus avium 'GIORGIA' sweet cherry - early

Giorgia is an early sweet cherry variety from Verona in Italy where it was bred by Giorgio Bargioni. It produces about 3 cm wide cherries of 7-9 g from approximately last week June (depending on weather). They are crispy and juicy, sweet with a hint of acidity balancing the flavour. The skin is glossy and deep red when fully mature. Giorgia cherries are moderately resistant to rain-induced splitting. It is not self-fertile and needs another cherry tree in the area of about 1 km flowering at the same time such as Van, Burla, Kordia, Sunburst, Büttner’s Rote.
It grows fast into an upright tree. Cherry trees like slightly acidic, humus rich, well drained but moist soil. When the fruit is formed some extra watering is a help in dry seasons. Cherries, just like most other stone-fruit trees, dislike regular pruning. If needed, they can be rejuvenated every 5 years or so by pruning immediately after flowering. Fully hardy to min. -29 °C.
