Prunus incisa 'KOJOU-NO-MAI' Fuji cherry

Fuji cherry Kojou-no-mai is a fantastic must have for small gardens and yards. This little shrub or tiny tree (if grafted on a short stem) is an eye-catching jewel with year-round interest. In winter it shows attractive architecture of slightly curved and fractured branches that have different angles one bud from another, but yet keeping upright growing direction. In early spring profusion of small, white, cherry flowers appear. They look almost campanulate thanks to their long stalks.

Fuji cherry Kojou-no-mai bears small, only 1-3cm long, oblong to lance-shaped, deciduous leaves that emerge bright green, mature to soft, grass-green, and turn brilliant red and orange shades in autumn. It grows slowly and very compact, though, any form of pruning, trimming, or bonsai making is allowed from early spring until late summer. Irrespective of your scissor jobs it will flower reliably every year.

Cherries like fresh, moist but well-drained soil, neutral to acid for best autumn colours. Grow it in full sun. Hardy to about -23°C (USDA zone 6), possibly a little more.
