Description of the plant:
Skimmia is a very nice small shrub, often used as a groundcover. It comes from Japan and the Himalayas. It needs a shady spot or a semi-shade as it loses leaf colour and suffers from sunburn in full sun. In the spring it has clusters of tiny fragrant flowers. It needs well cultivated, permeable, acidic soil, preferably moist. It is a perfect plant under tall trees or shrubs, or along shaded paths. „Rubella“ is a male variety with larger leaves and richer blossoms, and works as a pollinator for female plants. It is very hardy if kept away from winter and spring sunburn.
