Stipa tenuissima (Nassella tenuissima) 'PONYTAILS' feather grass


Feather grass comes from a country where it would definitely be called maravilloso as it comes from Mexico, Argentina, and can also be found in New Mexico and Texas in USA. Ponytails is a compact and a little shorter variety with thin, soft green foliage and about 30-40 tall stems with plume-like flowers from early summer until autumn. They are light green first, maturing to beige or buff later.
Somewhat arching habit is what makes this ornamental grass so popular along with the fact that the flowers move in the slightest breeze. That is possibly why it is a sought after plant among bamboo lovers who appreciate any added value such as movement and sound.
Feather grass loves sunny and warm locations in free draining soil of any pH. In mild winters in remains evergreen, still cutting back in early spring is essential for forming a nice plant the following year. No requirements as far as extra watering. Hardy to about -24°C (USDA zone 6).
