Weigela 'CANDIDA' weigela

Candida is one the few white flowering weigelas without any other colour combination either in the flowers or foliage. Just white and green. Candida weigela makes a profusion of pure white flowers from late May until early summer. It forms and upright shrub so in full bloom it looks like a beautiful wedding dress.
The flowers are funnel-shaped and may appear in the second flush in late summer. Deciduous leaves are broadly elliptic, acuminate, rich green, without a significant autumn colour change. Candida weigela is rather vigorously growing variety and pruning may be needed if you want to keep it looking neat and clean.
Weigelas thrive in semi-fertile, slightly moist soil, preferably in full sun. They can take heavy and compacted soil, too, but will need more time to grow nice. Pruning: remove flowering branches right after flowering by about two thirds in early summer, or prune compact varieties by about a third or half in midsummer. Hardy to approx. -29°C (USDA zone 5) but not suitable for outdoor pots (risk of drying out in winter).
