Deciduous broadleaf Hedging plants |
Ninebark is a low-maintenance deciduous shrub which is available in several varieties offering different leaf colour and shape. Summer Wine® is a patented new variety from 2005. It is a cross between varieties Nana and Diabolo®. The result is a smaller in statue plant with fantastic deep burgundy red foliage and arching branches. In late spring small pinkish-white flowers appear in profusion. They are soon followed by reddish-purple fruit that lasts until autumn.
Ninebarks are so easy to grow. They take any soil, pH and location. The root system is so sturdy it can easily grow through heavy clay and provide nutrients for a fantastic plant. Summer Wine® will look great grown next to other broadleaved plants with yellow or bright green foliage to provide the best contrast. Location in full sun will make the leaf colour deep. Pruning is not necessary as it branches well. Fully hardy to -42°C (USDA zone 3).
