fargesia is a genus of bamboo which is not only the most suitable type for our climate (zone 6), it is also one of the most attractive bamboos offering beautiful plants.
Eikje is a low growing bamboo variety with dark green, narrow leaves. The plant is compact and bushy and its mature height is about 1.5m which makes it suitable for small gardens, too.
This bamboo is clump-growing so it does not need root barrier as it is not invasive. Grow it in fertile, moisture retentive soil. If it has enough moisture it can be grown in full sun, otherwise in part shade. It is commonly hardy to -21°C and withstands short spells down to -25°C (USDA zone 6). After severe winter some portion of leaves may fall down and the plant will produce new ones in the spring.
