Chinese Walls is an attractive variety of clump-forming bamboo. It is a medium-fast grower making about 3m tall, dense bush in maturity. It has evergreen, medium-sized leaves of rich green colour. Its stems are erect and do not tend to droop with age so the name Chinese Walls perfectly fits its statue. It is an ideal screening or hedging plant. It grows very bushy and maintains foliage even in lower parts of the plant.
This bamboo is clump-growing so it does not need root barrier as it is not invasive. Grow it in fertile, moisture retentive soil. If it has enough moisture it can be grown in full sun, otherwise in part shade. Do not plant it in water-logged, heavy clay soil. It is commonly hardy to -21°C and withstands short spells down to -25°C (USDA zone 6). After severe winter some portion of leaves may fall down and the plant will produce new ones in the spring.
