Black broom is a profusely flowering shrub that can be found growing naturally in our countryside. Its features made breeders come up with a more compact variety ideal for our gardens. It is called Cyni.

Cyni is a black broom with numerous pea-like, bright yellow flowers composed in erect racemes. They come out from end May until mid June and if you prune it immediately after flowering it may flower again in late summer. Deciduous leaves are mid green, divided in three elliptic leaflets, just like leaves of golden rain for example. It grows slowly, forming a dense shrub. To keep it compact we recommend pruning it lightly every spring. Do not cut into old wood. All parts of the plant may cause stomach discomfort if ingested.

Black broom thrives in poor soils and dislikes high contents of nitrogen (do not fertilize it). It is best suited on sunny slopes and borders or in large rockeries with good drainage. Fully hardy to -27°C (USDA zone 5), possibly more.
