Fargesia is a genus of bamboo which is not only the most suitable type for our climate (zone 6), it is also one of the most attractive bamboos offering beautiful plants.
Neue Generation is a name commonly used for one variety that came from multiple seedlings all of which are grouped under the same name. What is basically refers to is a new type of bamboo with improved characteristics. Neue Generation offers hardy, strong growing plants with dense habit. Evergreen leaves are elongated, pointed, mid green. It produces fast growing, green and erect canes with nodding tips.
This bamboo is clump-growing so it does not need root barrier as it is not invasive. Grow it in fertile, moisture retentive soil. If it has enough moisture it can be grown in full sun, otherwise in part shade. It is commonly hardy to -21°C and withstands short spells down to -25°C (USDA zone 6). After severe winter some portion of leaves may fall down and the plant will produce new ones in the spring.
