Coral flowers are very popular ground-covering perennials and irrespective of the name they are more popular for foliage rather than the flowers. They require almost zero maintenance and will live in virtually any location expect for too wet or too dry. Most varieties retain foliage through winter, some of them long into early spring.
Palace Purple is a fantastic coral flower with deep purple red leaves that are about 30 cm above the ground level. In early summer the plants produce 40-45 cm tall stems with loose panicles of creamy white flowers followed by rosy pink seeds.
Use it as a ground-covering plant or a small specimen plant in bed with light stone or gravel. You can also utilize its dramatic appearance mixing it in a border with low shrubs or plants on shorts stems and different leaves for colour contrast. Heucheras can take almost any soil, as well as full sun and humidity, though they will thrive in fertile, moist but well drained, neutral soil. Fully hardy to abt. -34°C (USDA zone 4), suitable for outdoor pots.
