You can tell by the name where this medium sized tree comes from: former Persia (current Iran). Rather unusual tree maintains branches from the ground. It has moderate growth rate and does excellently in our climate. It can grow to 3-6 m. Attractive beech-like leaves are 7-13 cm long, bright grass green, glossy, and change their shade slightly throughout the season.
At the end of summer, the leaves at the end of the branches change to salmon pink and in the autumn the colour play is wonderful: yellow, gold, orange, crimson red. It needs full sun or at least part shade, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. On mature specimen the bark peels off revealing silvery-grey, green and cinnamon colours, similar to plane trees. Fully hardy.
