Magical Rainbow® is an eye-catching weigela variety from Dutch town Boskoop, 2008. It was bred by Peter Rudolf Koster as a cross between two unnamed seedlings. The result is a compact shrub with vibrant coloured foliage and soft pink, funnel-shaped flowers in late spring and early summer.

Leaves of MagMagical Rainbow® are deciduous, ovate, dark green and yellow, with thin purple-pink margins that are more conspicuous towards the end of the season. It grows moderately and needs no or little pruning to keep its shape.

Weigelas thrive in semi-fertile, slightly moist soil, preferably in full sun. They can take heavy and compacted soil, too, but will need more time to grow nice. Pruning: remove flowering branches right after flowering in early summer. Expected hardiness: -30°C (USDA zone 5, possibly 4).
