Constant Cheer is a spring flowering wallflower with dusky orange flowers that fade to pale pink. They have a weak but lovely fragrance and are popular as cut flowers. When flowering begins in late April or early May we suggest fertilizing it lightly every week in order to enhance formation of new flower buds and growth of new leaves which are always a bit behind when the plant is blooming. Leaves are narrowly lanceolate or rosemary-like, and remain evergreen in mild winters of zone 6, and always in zones 7 and higher.

Trim it lightly after flowering has finished. New leaves will grow and the plant will look good until the end of the season. Newly emerged stems will bear flower buds for early spring flowering in the following year.

Wallflower needs full sun and very well-drained soil or a raised bed as it dislikes wet places. The soil should be poor and preferably alkaline or neutral. In harsh winters protect the plant with fir branches. Hardy to about -24°C (USDA zone 6).
