Little Red orpine is a chance seedling of a popular variety Munstead Dark Red. It is a smaller plant with the same depth of flower colour. It produces rich purple red flowers in almost flat corymbs in from late August until early October. Stems are shorter, only 20-25 cm tall. Leaves are oval to oblong, pale green, and have thin purple red margins.

Orpines are perfect plants for autumn borders. They add an extra colour on an architecturally interesting plant. These perennials are easy to grow, they will like almost any well-drained soil and do well in rockeries and outdoor pots. Cut them back in early spring. Fully hardy to min. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
