BELONGS TO CATEGORIES Fruit trees

Melodie is a Czech midseason apple tree variety producing fruit from late September. It is a cross between Šampion and botanical species and was bred by Otto Louda, registered in 1991. Melodie apple has semi-large to large, almost rounded fruit of refreshing taste with some acidity, or slightly sweet if grown in warm locations. The fruit is very aromatic and juicy and can be eaten fresh or stored until March. Its skin is moderately strong, attractive purple red on almost two thirds. The flesh is nearly white and crunchy. Very productive variety resistant to scab.

Melodie apple tree grows rather fast when young, slowing down soon after it begins setting fruit which is quite early. Being self-sterile it needs another pollinator for heavy crop, such as Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Golden Reinette, Granny Smith, Melrose, Opal, Pinova, Rajka, Rubinola, Spartan, Starking, and Topaz. Pruning can be done in frost-free periods of winter but Šampion is not a large tree and may benefit from being left to its own devices. Hardy to min. -29°C (USDA zone 5) and suitable for all regions including colder ones.
