Flamingo is an eulaila variety of a graceful habit. It has deep green, glossy leaves with a conspicuous white stripe in the middle. In autumn they quickly gain purple shades and later turn fiery orange. Glossy, wine red flowers are borne late in the season, and open just above the horizon of leaves making the clump look very compact and well-behaved.
Eulalia does not tend to be invasive here. It is best grown in sunny and warm areas, in almost any well-drained soil with only occasional watering in summer. It hates boggy soil quite surprisingly copes well with heavy clay unless its roots stand in water before they establish. It is recommended to tie up the leaves before winter and cut the clump back in early spring, about 10-20 cm above ground level. This variety is very hardy, it can withstand temperatures down to about -34°C (USDA zone 4).
