Emily McKenzie is a late flowering montbretia and belongs to the more special varieties owing to its large, wide open flowers of almost copper orange colour with a bold red eye. They appear atop strictly upright, non-arching stems from mid August. It makes compact clumps of medium green, sword-like leaves that are wider on most other varieties and which confirm plant's affiliation with iris family. The plant grows only about 60 cm tall.
Montbretia does best in fertile, moist but well drained soil of any pH, preferably in full sun. Emily McKenzie montbretia unfortunately did not prove equally hardy as most other varieties and did not survive lower than -17°C. (USDA zone 7)
