When in full bloom this Japanese apricot is a true eye-catcher. Benishidore is a variety with dark pink single flowers which appear early in the spring and may be followed by small, spherical, hairy, edible fruit of sour to bitter taste. It is a small tree with a wide crown reaching about 2.5m high and wide in maturity. It tolerates most soil types except boggy but prefers slightly acidic, moist places.
