If you like spring profusion of cherry flowers this small tree, although called flowering almond, is definitely a must-have. Its unique, soft pink, double flowers appear on bare wood and come out reliably every year making this small tree a regular attraction.
It grows about 3m tall and is densely branched, forming a wide bush or crown. Leaves are broadly elliptic, often 3-lobed, bright to mid-green. Gardeners often recommend pruning all branches every year after flowering to 1/3 of their original size. Thus you will have a denser and more profusely flowering tree the following year.
It tolerates most soil types except boggy but prefers slightly acidic, moist places. Fully hardy to -34°C (USDA zone 4).
