Little Diamond is another dwarf variety of Japanese cedar. It was found in the Netherlands in 1990. It is very similar to Little Champion or Globosa Nana but grows yet a little smaller.

Little Diamond is a dense, compact conifer with rounded branches that look like woven rope. The needles are curved, inward-pointing, bright green as they emerge and emerald green in all seasons except for winter when they may turn purplish or bronze (soil conditions pending - in great soils it remains rich green). It grows very slowly into a compact, almost perfectly rounded bush about 40 cm tall and a little more wide at the age of 10 years.

This compact cedar will grow in almost any well-drained soil, but for best results grow it in fertile, deep, always moist soil. Partial shade is best, and it can take full sun if constantly moist. It requires no maintenance, pruning is not necessary but can be trimmed in early spring after all frosts. It is very hardy - it will withstand about -29°C without protection (USDA zone 5).
