Lily of the valley shrub is an attractive evergreen shrub with handsome flowers and striking red new leaves. Vase-shaped creamy white flowers hang on pink stamens in slightly pendent, long racemes. “Valley Fire” is one of the hardiest varieties that blooms reliably and shows no damage after winter. New leaves are firey-red, turning to fresh to mid green in summer. Pieris has shallow roots so does not need deep soil. It can be planted in full sun or semi-shade provided the roots are cool and moist. The soil has to be rich in organic material and acidic. Fully hardy.
