Helenium MARIACHI™ 'FUEGO'

Helen’s flower (sneezeweed) is an attractive perennial for summer and autumn borders. Newer cultivars are selected for extended blooming time or different colour play. Mariachi™ is a fascinating series of compact sneezeweeds bred by Arie Blom from the Netherlands. Fuego was patented as PP25977 in 2015.

Mariachi™ Fuego is a compact and rather short sneezeweed variety with cheerful flowers. They are bright golden yellow and crimson with small, central cones of burgundy red and yellow green colour. Try combining them with blue sage for striking colour contrast, and be sure your flower bed will look like a calendar picture. Stems are only about 80 cm tall, and well branched, producing numerous flowers also at the tips of side shoots from late July until early autumn. Leaves are soft green, lanceolate, and appear along the stems as well as near the ground.

Sneezeweed will grow in almost soil type but prefers fertile, reasonably drained but constantly moist soil and full sun. It hates drought. It is recommended to divide every 2-4 years to encourage new roots and young plants. All parts of the plant may cause severe discomfort if eaten. Fully hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4).
