Terra Nova® Nurseries in Oregon, USA, is the leading breeder of several perennials and heucheras - coral bells play one of the main roles. Janet N. Egger is the key woman behind the success of many of them. Along with the Terra Nova® team they have managed to introduce 67 varieties so far, and others are surely in the pipeline, awaiting performance results. With so many plants it can't be an easy job to give names to such a large family. And sometimes, no matter how hard they try, everyone comes back with the easiest and obvious, just like in the case of FOREVER® PURPLE. Simply because it IS forever purple.

FOREVER® PURPLE is a coral bells producing stunning, glossy, slightly scalloped foliage of the deepest plum purple colour. It is from the FOREVER® series comprising of varieties with leaves whose colour does not change significantly throughout the year, and remain handsome also in winter, unharmed by mild frost.

Small, pale pink to almost white flowers are composed in erect panicles atop straight, only some 30 cm tall, rich red stems from mid spring until late summer. They can be cut off if only beautiful foliage is what you desire. The plant shows exceptional vigour and forms compact mounds. The variety was patented as PP26359 in 2016.

Coral bells can take almost any soil with ample moisture and good drainage. They do best in partial shade or filtered sun, however, if you make sure they will not dry out you can place them in full sun, too. They can also live in dark shade where their colours will not be too rich, such location is usually best for light coloured varieties. Cut off all leaves in early spring to encourage growth of new foliage. Fully hardy to abt. -34°C (USDA zone 4), and suitable for outdoor pots.
