Red Majestic is another form of hazel with twisted branches. The leaves are deep burgundy red to nearly brown. This slow growing shrub makes the best display in winter when the leaves have fallen down and the branches show their shape.
Unlike the species, it is keeping rather small – about 3 meters in 25 years. The flowers overwinter as dangling, rose-red coloured catkins. No special soil requirements, just avoid heavy or water-logged soil. Fully hardy to min. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
