Pinus mugo ssp. MUGHUS dwarf mountain pine
Pinus
Pine trees are superb trees which grow in a wide climate scale - from cold northern countries to hot coastal sites. They are probably most beautiful in their natural environment.
Mughus is a subspecies of dwarf mountain pine with even more compact and slower growth. It has very dense habit and dark green, short needles. It looks great in a large rockery as well as in a Japanese-style garden where it creates a perfect cushion image.
Pines need slightly moist soil when getting established but will live in almost any well-drained soil. They do prefer a lot of sunshine to be compact and dense so try to avoid shaded placed when finding it a spot in a garden. Fully hardy to min. -45°C (USDA zone 2).
