Algerian blue fir is a show-stopper. This fir comes from Alger and Morocco and the original species is a large tree. This variety, however, is blue and dwarf.
The needles are short and stiff, and densely cover the branches. Their colour is deep green with rich, silvery blue stripes making a striking blue overall appearance. It grows very slowly, making short branches. Its usual size is 1.5-3m, specimens in warmer parts of Europe can experience double the size.
It likes light, medium fertile, slightly acidic soil that remains moist. The best location is light shade or filtered sun, but if sufficiently mulched it can grow in full sun, too. It likes warmth and will suffer in draft so avoid windy places and do not plant it in cold, mountainous resorts. Fully hardy to USDA zone 6 (-25°C), possibly more.
