Wisterias are undoubtedly the queen of flowering climbers. Rosea is a pink flowering variety of Japanese wisteria. Slightly fragrant flowers are formed in 30-70 cm long racemes and appear along with the leaves from early May until early June. Pinnate leaves look rather exotic and densely cover the plant and its support from the ground level. They are light coppery green when young, turning mid green in summer.

The support is necessary even for tree forms because the wood of this climber remains very flexible for many years. The plants flower mainly on short spurs so cut back unwanted side branches to 2-3 buds to encourage formation of flowering spurs.

It needs moist, acidic soil. Young plants require a sheltered place, mature plants (and those with a stem) are fully hardy to -29°C (USDA zone 5).
