Another website I came across calls this Norway maple a meat-ball-on-a-stick. Quite funny, actually, but in fat it truthfully describes the shape of this small tree. Well, that only in case the author meant a good housewife who made proper, perfectly spherical meat balls.
Globosum is a variety with typically regular, rounded crown. The shape is natural, no pruning or trimming needed. The leaves emerge bronze-red, along with small but conspicuous, bright yellow flowers composed in abundant corymbs. Autumn colour of leaves is vivid golden-yellow.
It is a small tree that will fit even the smallest of gardens. Ideal for front yards and narrow roads.
It grows slowly. Norway maple is soil tolerant and will even do in poor soils if planted in full sun. Fully hardy to min. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
